YESTERDAY was confirmation that Labor has been secretly modelling changes to capital gains tax and negative gearing rules.
It is further proof that Labor is at war with the Australian dream of home ownership, Member for Forde, Bert van Manen MP said.
It’s been made plain that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been working behind the scenes on the scheme.
“This could affect the financial future of millions of Australians,” Mr van Manen said.
Here’s what both the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age reported:
“Federal officials have started work on options to scale back negative gearing and capital gains tax concessions.”
“This is a tax grab from a government that has run out of money to fuel its inflationary spending,” Mr van Manen said.
“It’s clear now that Labor is looking to revive their big taxing agenda from 2019.
“At a time when inflation is taxing Australians household budgets, Labor’s only economic plan is to add to that cost with higher taxes.
“The majority of those who negatively gear properties are middle income Australians, like teachers, nurses, police officers and plumbers.
“The current housing crisis isn’t because of negative gearing, it’s because Labor has caused housing demand to get hugely out of kilter with housing supply.
“Rest assured, we will continue to hold the Labor government accountable and fight for the interests of all Australians.
“This scheme will not be beneficial for renters, or homeowners.
“The Coalition will always stand up for hard-working Australians.
“We remain committed to protecting negative gearing and maintaining the current capital gains tax concessions.
“We believe in rewarding hard work and smart investments, not penalising them.
“Our economic plan will get Australia back on track,” Mr van Manen said.
