POSITIVE progress has been made to get a notorious stretch of road safeguarded.
Member for Forde, Bert van Manen MP, has continued his push for the installation of traffic lights at the Beaudesert-Beenleigh Rd intersection with Bannockburn and Belivah Roads.
Mr van Manen hosted Queensland’s Shadow Minister for Roads and Transport, Steve Minnikin MP, in the electorate last week.
The pair were joined by the LNP’s candidate for the Queensland state seat of Macalister, Rob van Manen.
“I was very eager to get the Shadow Minister to the area so he could see the intersection with his own eyes,” Bert van Manen said.
“I’ve circulated a petition over the last few weeks to show the State Government, who are responsible for the stretch, the levels of support there are for this upgrade.
“For too long the incumbent State Labor Government has overlooked this road, as well as many others in the region.”
In just a matter of weeks the petition has attracted several hundred signatures.
On his visit to the corner of the intersection, Mr Minnikin witnessed a couple of close calls for himself, reaffirming Mr van Manen’s position on the matter.
“While we were close by, I also showed him the progress, or lack thereof, on Beaudesert–Beenleigh Rd, Milne St to Tallagandra Rd duplication.
“We’ve heard some local commentary from the Labor Party about road projects that are yet to get moving – well here’s one they need to own,” Mr van Manen said.
“The Federal Coalition gave the State Government $6 million back in 2021 and we are yet to see any progress on this vital local infrastructure project.”
Mr van Manen said it was great to have the Shadow Minister in Forde.
“I look forward to working with whoever the Government is after October 26 and seeing this intersection upgrade through to realisation.”
