Twelve aspiring young athletes were awarded grants under Round 2 (2019-20) of the Federal Government’s Local Sporting Champions program to help them compete at sporting events.
Each local sporting star received up to $600 in Federal funding to represent their team in state, national or international championships.
The Local Sporting Champions program offers grants to coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 who may have to travel to participate in sporting events.
Federal Member for Forde Bert van Manen said the grants would support young local athletes and their families meet the costs associated with attending sporting competitions.
“This can be for any expenses associated with competing in nominated championships like travel fares, accommodation costs, uniform and sporting equipment costs and entry fees which tend to add up over time,” he said.
“This also affords champions in Forde the chance to showcase their talent beyond our local area.”
The Morrison Government’s Local Sporting Champions program grants are delivered through four grant rounds a year.
The next round is currently open and applications close on 31 December 2019.
